Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is not an exclusive issue for women, but they are the most affected; this disease is the first cause of incidence among neoplasms and the second cause of mortality in Cuban women.

Objective: To describe clinically and epidemiologically the patients operated on for breast cancer at the Territorial Oncology Center of Holguin, during the period from January 2018 to March 2020.

Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional observational descriptive study was carried out applying descriptive statistics. The universe consisted of 730 patients and the entire universe was used. The variables sex, age, clinical stage, type of surgery, location, histological type and molecular classification, applying descriptive statistics.

Results: There was a predominance of female patients (722 for 98.9%) as well as those between 51 and 55 years old (108 for 14.7%). Conservative surgery was the most used (343 for 44.7%), the primary lesions in the left breast (396 for 54.2%) with histological type of infiltrating ductal carcinoma (674 for 92.3%), in clinical stage II (403 for 55.2%) of luminal molecular classification A (22 for 38.6%) had a higher incidence.

Conclusions: Although infiltrating ductal carcinomas are a histological type with a poor prognosis, a predominance of patients with an early diagnosis of this pathology was found. The fundamental pillar of the treatment of a breast neoplasm is surgery. By means of the immunohistochemical study, favorable clinical and evolutionary information was obtained, favoring the use of conservative surgery as a mixed treatment.
