Oral leukoplakia, potentially malignant lesion for head and neck cancer

A literature review on oral leukoplakia as a potentially malignant lesion for head and neck cancer was conducted; databases such as Scielo, Hinari and PubMed were consulted; 30 sources were cited, including books, scientific articles, magazines and newspaper articles.
The aim of this research was to synthesize updated information on the subject, and it was found that this lesion of the oral mucosa has a potential for malignant transformation; so it is classified as a precancerous lesion, which can affect both men and women, determined by various etiological factors like tobacco.
