Abstract

Introduction: Electrophoresis is a technique that involves the movement of proteins over a
period of time, thanks to the production of an electric field. It is used to investigate possible
variations in serum protein fractions due to intense exercise, and can provide information on
the immune response and physiological status in child athletes.
Objective: To characterize the presence and type of alteration in protein fractionation,
obtained by performing protein electrophoresis, and use this test as an early detection method
to identify possible deviations in the health status of high-performance child athletes.
Method: A retrospective longitudinal descriptive observational study was conducted. The
universe and sample consisted of 24 male children from the school soccer team at EIDE Pedro
M. Díaz Coello.
Results: The 12-13 age group predominated with 70.83% of the 24 electrophoreses performed,
which constitutes 100% of the team. Seventeen were positive for hypergammaglobulinemia,
representing 70.83%, which is considered significant.
Conclusions: Comparative studies with larger samples are recommended to evaluate variations
in serum protein fractionation in pediatric athletes at rest and after receiving training loads.
